April 30th, 2010

As Queensland’s capital city gears up to host the highlight of the state’s horse racing calendar – the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival, the illustrious Stradbroke Handicap Day draws closer and will be held on the 12th of June.

Taking place at the stunning Eagle Farm Racecourse, several fantastic races will draw some of the nation’s top quality thoroughbred racers to the track, with the Group 2 Brisbane Cup one of the highlights.

Get Up Jude, trained by Diane Poidevin-Laine, could certainly be a starter in the 2010 Brisbane Cup.

Spanning over 2,400 metres, the open handicap sees the starters compete over the track all looking for a share in the $300,000.

Get Up Jude, trained by Diane Poidevin-Laine, could certainly be a starter in the 2010 Brisbane Cup.

The six-year-old gelding recently finished fifth in the Group 1 Sydney Cup (3200m) against a classy field, and has proved himself over the staying distance.

The Grogoch is another possibility for the race after an impressive win in the Hawke’s Bay Life Members (2500m) recently.

Trained by Michael Moroney, Tinseltown could also be a strong possibility when it comes down to winning the 2010 Brisbane Cup. The gelding recently won the Te Aroha Cup (2200m), and will look to better his 2009 performance at the Brisbane Cup.

Also taking place on the 12th of June alongside the 2010 Brisbane Cup will be the headlining $1 million Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap (1400m), the Group 1 T J Smith (1600m), the Group 1 Queensland Derby (2400m) and the Group 2 Queensland Guineas (1600m).
