Darren Weir is set to launch a three-pronged attack in the stayers’ feature after including Real Love, Master Of Arts and Puccini in 2016 Brisbane Cup nominations.

A former Perth galloper, Real Love has undoubtedly found career-best condition since transferring to Weir at the conclusion of her 2015/16 summer campaign.

Ending her west coast tenure a credible third in the Group 2 Perth Cup (2400m), the Desert King mare ran third in each of the Doriemus Handicap (2000m) and Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) before taking out the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m) on March 5th.

Progressing to third in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) on March 14th, Real Love returned from a brief freshen-up for second in the Beck Property Group Plate (2000m), and has taken out each of the Group 3 JRA Cup (2000m) and Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) since arriving in Brisbane.

Capping a strong winter preparation third in the Group 3 Grand Prix Stakes (2020m) at Doomben in 2015, Master Of Arts returned to racing this time for third in the Ladbrokes Infohub BM78 (1400m) on February 17th but failed to handle the late pace when eighth in the Casey Cup (1600m) at Cranbourne on March 4th.

Progressing to fourth in a Mooney Valley minor over 2040m, the Mastercraftsman entire charged home to win the Schweppes BM70 (2014m) on April 16th before producing a career-best effort to date to win the Listed Warrnambool Cup (2350m) by close to two lengths on May 5th.

Running second to Bold Sniper in the Le Pine Funerals Plate (2400m) last time out on May 28th, Master Of Arts should prove tough to beat under the conditions of the Brisbane Cup on Saturday.

Puccini has posted a number of impressive results between lacklustre runs this time, but should also relish the conditions of the 2016 Brisbane Cup.

A Group 1 winner at the distance having taken out the 2014 edition of the New Zealand Derby (2400m), Puccini returned to racing this year for third in the Group 3 TAB Rewards Stakes (1400m) on March 5th but failed to make any impact whatsoever in the Group 2 Ajax Stakes (1500m).

Responding well for fourth in each of the Group 3 Easter Cup (2000m) and Listed Mornington Cup (2400m), the Encosta De Lago entire failed to beat a single runner home in the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) but ran on for a close second in the Premier’s Cup last time.

A talented and capacity field of eighteen plus emergencies is expected to be confirmed for the 2016 Brisbane Cup following the completion of a barrier draw on Wednesday.
