Ecuador carries winning form into the Group 2 race, has been confirmed to be partnered by Adam Hyeronimus but will undoubtedly require early luck after drawing into the Brisbane Cup field in the outside barrier.

Running second behind Winx in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) most notably in 2015, Ecuador returned this time for a credible sixth in the Group 1 Canterbury Stakes (1300m) before placing seventh in the Group 3 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1350m).

Failing to fire in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile (1600m), the High Chaparral gelding ran on for sixth in the talent-rich Group 3 Hawkesbury Gold Cup (1600m) before taking out each of the Listed Lord Mayors Cup (2000m) and Listed WJ McKell Cup (2400m) most recently.

Real Love has tasted nothing but success since arriving in Brisbane, and the classy mare is set to be offered a chance to complete and impressive season this weekend after being confirmed in the 2016 Brisbane Cup field.

Transferring to the care of Darren Weir following a final Perth preparation under the care of Adam Durrant, Real Love ran third in each of the Doriemus Handicap (200m) and Listed Torney Night Cup (2500m) through late January and February.

Returning to winning form in the Listed Roy Higgins Quality (2600m), the Desert King mare ran on for a credible third in the Group 2 Adelaide Cup (3200m) before placing second in the Beck Property Group Plate (2000m), following a brief freshen-up.

Having taken out each of the Group 3 JRA Cup (2000m) and Group 3 Premier’s Cup (2200m) most recently, Real Love may need luck in transit from barrier 10 but will again be partnered by Brad Rawiller in the Brisbane Cup.

Classy local Col ‘n’ Lil has returned to racing in smart form this year, has drawn ideally into the Brisbane Cup field in barrier 5 and cannot be discounted with only 53kgs in tow.

Producing a number of smart efforts through last year’s edition of the Brisbane Winter Carnival, highlighted by a close second in the Group 2 The Roses (2000m), Col ‘N’ Lil resumed this time for an impressive win in the Roladuct Spiral Tubing Plate (1350m) on March 19th.

Continuing to impress through recent starts, the Bradbury’s Luck mare placed fifth in the ARA Fire BM85 (1630m) on April 30th; progressing to second in the City Of Gold Coast BM80 (1800m) before taking out the Herbert Smith Freehills BM85 (2000m) last time out on May 21st.
